Waterville Primary School Earns Two Grants to Support STEAM Education

Waterville Primary School is excited to announce that it has received two grants totaling $4,000 to enhance student engagement in hands-on STEAM learning.

A $1,500 Global Youth Service Day grant will support the school’s efforts in the Land Lab, with part of the funding supporting the purchase of supplies like mulch, plants, gardening tools and planter box materials. Students, staff and volunteers will work together to repair planter boxes, prepare soil, plant gardens, and collaborate with local experts and food bank representatives to promote sustainability and food security. The remaining funds will allow for third-grade students to learn about pollinators in a Toledo Grows education program.

A second grant of $2,500 from the Ohio Space Grant Consortium will fund Arctic Explorers: Wintertime in the Prairie! The school-wide Earth Science project, in partnership with Toledo Zoo Educators, will explore inquiry-based learning, citizen science, biodiversity, conservation and climate science. Mobile discovery labs will bring hands-on STEAM experiences directly into classrooms.

"These grants provide our students with meaningful, real-world learning opportunities that connect them with their environment and community," said Jamie Hollinger, Waterville Primary Principal. "We are excited to see the lasting impact of these projects on our students’ learning and the overall success of our Land Lab."

The District and school extends our gratitude to the granting organizations and community partners for supporting these enriching learning experiences.
