Election Day Outcomes Update

November 6, 2024

Dear Anthony Wayne Community Members,

I want to extend my sincere gratitude to everyone who participated in yesterday’s elections. I greatly appreciate your involvement in this important process.

While we are still waiting on official counts, I want to share information that I received from a conversation with the Lucas County Board of Elections this morning regarding the pending outcome of the levy request.

At present, the vote stands at 10,021 in favor of the levy and 10,099 against. Before the results are finalized, the Lucas County Board of Elections must certify the election results, a process scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 20.

Several factors may influence the final results:
  • Provisional Ballots
    • Provisional ballots are used when there are questions regarding a voter’s eligibility or if a voter has changed their address without updating their registration.
    • There are currently 4,426 provisional ballots across Lucas County. However, it is unclear how many of these ballots pertain to AWLS or how many will ultimately be included in the count.
    • Election officials will review and verify these provisional ballots over the next four days, at which point eligible votes will be processed.
  • Absentee Ballots
    • There are also 3,800 absentee ballots in Lucas County that were requested but have not yet been returned. These ballots must have been postmarked by November 4 and received by the Board of Elections by November 9 to be eligible.
    • The Board will begin processing and counting these absentee ballots on November 15. As with the provisional ballots, it is unknown how many of these absentee ballots are from voters within AWLS.
After counting the provisional and absentee ballots, the Board of Elections will determine the final vote totals. If the final margin falls within 0.5%—or approximately 100 votes—a recount will be ordered by the Secretary of State.

All of these steps must be completed before the Board of Elections certifies the results on November 20. Until that time, all results remain unofficial.

Thank you for your continued interest in our schools and the outcome of the operational levy. More discussions about the District’s financial health will be had in the coming weeks and months. We invite you to stay engaged in this process by watching for future communications and attending Board meetings.
