Students and staff at Monclova Primary School are paying it forward this holiday season to help others in need. On December 18, donations totalling $1,000 to Amy Barrett in support of neighborhood bridges. The organization was chosen to be the recipient of the donations due to its commitment to offering support to AW students and families.
Building principal Bestey Murry presented a $500 check on behalf of the faculty and staff at Monclova Primary. Contributions were collected at their annual staff holiday party and fundraiser earlier this month.
A second $500 check was presented by Brianne Black and her fourth grade students. The class received $1,000 for being named the winners of the Parker Square Park tree decorating contest in Waterville. The tree was decorated in a blue and white AW theme, and featured ornaments made by each student in the class that included their photo.
The remaining prize money was used to host a class pizza party and purchase new school supplies, including new books, board games and playground equipment. The class wishes to thank Waterville Christmas to Remember organizer Wendy Gray and sponsors Peggy and Tom Parker for hosting the contest and for their generous donation.
Neighborhood Bridges is a nonprofit organization that partners with AWLS to ensure that students have the resources they need to come to school ready to learn. When needs are identified, the District works with Neighborhood Bridges to find donors who can provide or make a financial contribution toward securing them for students and their families. Community members are encouraged to sign up to receive notifications for opportunities for kindness. Families who need support should contact their school counselor.
