AWJH Musicians Excel at Solo & Ensemble Contest

Ten students represented the AW Junior High Choir Department at the OMEA Solo and Ensemble Contest on Saturday, April 5. The annual event, organized by the Ohio Music Education Association allows student musicians to perform prepared solos or small ensemble pieces for adjudication by professional judges.

Alice Mawer, 8th grade received an Excellent (II) rating on her solo, "Didn't My Lord Deliver, Daniel?" Emily McGilvery, 7th grade, received a Superior (I) rating on her solo, "Dandelions Gold and Green.”

The 7th Grade soprano & alto quartet composed of Margaret Dumas, Rylan Yeater, Estrella Crider and MaKenzie Pollard sang “The Clouds.” The 8th grade soprano and alto quartet of Mia White, Isabelle Fleig, Cali DeSando and Addison Morris performed “Cripple Creek.” Both ensembles received Superior (I) ratings for their selections.

Congratulations to the soloists and quartets, and their director Miss Taylor Nickeson for their hard work and dedication to preparing their pieces to this level of excellence!
