Winter Break Chromebook Care

While your student may keep their device at home during break, it is heavily encouraged that you take the following precautions to ensure it remains safe and in good working order:

  • Keep the Chromebook charged. Letting the battery drain completely can reduce its performance and lifespan.

  • Do not allow your child to use the Chromebook in a hazardous environment. Please keep it away from liquids, direct sunlight, extreme hot and cold temperatures, etc.
Examples: Do not use it while eating or poolside while traveling, or leave it in a cold car.

  • Handle the device with care. Rough handling can cause damages requiring repair or replacement. Examples: Do not carry the device by the screen or close items between the screen and keyboard.

  • Make sure the device is safe and secure at all times. Loss of a device is considered neglect and is not covered under the Chromebook Protection Plan. Examples: Left unsecured during holiday parties, in a vehicle, etc.

  • If a device is stolen, a police report must be provided to the AWLS Technology Department in order to replace it. Without a police report, families will be charged the full replacement cost of the Chromebook before the District can replace the device.
