Two Anthony Wayne High School seniors have accepted appointments to attend U.S. military academies upon graduation. Joseph Masiker will attend the U.S. Air Force Academy near Colorado Springs, CO and Austin Wilson will attend the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD.
Joseph Masiker
Joseph Masiker is continuing his family’s legacy of being a member of the United States Air Force, as his father and grandfather are both veterans of the branch. He is currently pursuing a private pilot’s license, serves as the Cadet Commander of the Civil Air Patrol, is a member of the AW Bands and maintains a 4.52 grade point average.
He was nominated for entrance into the Air Force Academy by U.S. Representative Marcy Kaptur, U.S. Senator J.D. Vance and the academy superintendent, Lieutenant General Richard M. Clark.
While at the Academy, Joseph plans to major in meteorology and aspires to become an Air Force Pilot.
Joseph is the son of Joshua and Jessica Masiker of Waterville.
Austin Wilson
Austin Wilson is also paying homage to a family member’s service by entering the U.S. Naval Academy. His grandfather was a Seebee who served in Vietnam and his great uncle was in the Army, and was taken captive during World War II.
He is actively involved in more than 30 extracurricular activities, including Student Council, National Honor Society, AW Bands, Civil Air Patrol and Waterville Historical Society. Austin’s academics are equally impressive, with a 4.47 grade point average.
He was nominated for entrance into the Air Force Academy by U.S. Representative Marcy Kaptur and U.S. Senator J.D. Vance.
Austin plans to major in aerospace and astronautical engineering with the goal of becoming a pilot.
Austin is the son of Brian and Jennifer Wilson of Waterville.
